Indian Idol Season 4 registration began on April 1st, 2008. The show proposes that auditions will take place in Calcutta, Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Gwalior and Lucknow, with the possibility of other cities being added in the future. The fourth season will see Anu Mallik and Javed Akthar on the hot seats as they take judges' chair once again for the show.

Indian Idol" Prashanta Tamang's first public show at Casino Royale in the capital city fetched its organisers at least four million bucks in one go.

Casino Royale, owned by an Indian Rakesh Wadhwa, sold 1,500 tickets priced at Rs 2,500 for the three hour gala programme yesterday night.

The programme earned the casino at least Rs 4 million over night, according to a casino staff.

Besides that people also enjoyed various games of black jack, roulette, flush and baccarat at jam packed tables in the casino.

Though it was illegal to allow Nepalese people in the country's casinos, 90 percent of the audience comprised its citizens, according to eye-witnesses.

The show was organised a day after Indian Yoga Guru Rama Dev concluded his week long Yoga session that attracted 1.5 lakh people from all over Nepal.

Prashanta will be giving his second and third performance at St. Xavier's School in Jawlakhel in Kathmandu and famous tourist spot Pokhara today and tomorrow respectively.

Dear Admin

Firstly, thank you for your hard work during II3 which kept us thoroughly entertained! We are grateful !

I'd like to reply to the writer of your current 'main blog' through this email.

The writer is clearly a disappointed Amit fan who is trying to belittle a worthy winner - Prashant - but trying to hide behind a world of grandiose (and sadly, often incorrect prose).

The writer goes on ad nauseum about people using the Internet in their workplace to vote for Prashant ! May I suggest that the writer do his homework before slandering an entire worforce i.e. the police and military! In his grief and rush to vent his frustration, the writer does not seem to have realised that one was unable to vote via the Internet except at IWAY internet cafes, (after buying vouchers). Perhaps te writer thought that the polls on the Indian Idol homepage were actual votes ??? Anyway, this allegation has no base and reeks of sour grapes. ( We won't talk about IQ here !)

The writer conveniently seems to have forgotten that Govt machinery and money was used in Meghalaya to vote for Amit!! The people of Darjeeling used their own hard earned money to vote ! They voted for Prashant of their own free will, and as we have seen, succeeded in toppling an orchestrated campaign by Meghalaya.

There is also much righteousness about how the judges were biased. Despite claiming to have watched Indian Idol religiously, the writer has chosen to forget that the judges were biased in favour of Amit ! He also rants about and defames Javed Akhtar or Zaved (sic) as the writer chooses to call him.( Note to writer - this is the correct use of 'sic'). He finds fault with everything the judges have done or said. He does not seem to remember that Alisha openly supported Amit ( though this was clearly unfair and unbecoming of a supposedly impartial judge ). And Bipasha Basu drooling over Amit does not even find a mention! How convenient !

The writer calls for a breakdown of votes . So what if a lot of the votes came from the police or the military? They are allowed to vote for their favourite, aren't they ? Most of Amit's votes would have come from Meghalaya ( govt sponsored free booths) !

Also, the writer says Prashant is Sony's 'doctored' Idol. Clearly he has again forgotten that Amit was being promoted by Sony all along - you only need to watch footage of various shows !

Finally, the writer chooses to educate us about fairplay in the US and how we should all learn from the great US of A ! Please, give us a break !

Despite all his bravado and use of substantard English, the writer seems to be too narrow-minded to avoid the fatal racial slur towards people of Nepali descent in his last sentence. This shows his true mentality and intentions in writing his blog.

My advice to the blog writer is
1. Please accept defeat with the decency Amit has shown.
2. If you can't, don't make false accusations
3. Learn how to write English correctly
4. Stay in America
5. Get a life.

Please note that this is an observation by one of our readers... and everyone has right to speak.. please be easy with the comments if you don't like or if you don't agree with some points...

I am appalled at the manner by which the selection... I am appalled at the manner by which the selection process of Indian Idol was entirely relegated to SMS and other electronic communication measures. Sony TV should have known of the dynamics of this selection process better than what the ordinary public might be able to comprehend. The system in place for the selection of an Indian Idol is akin to the practice by which the selection of American Idol is made in the United States. There is however one profound difference, which is the "corruption factor". In the USA no individual voting for a candidate of their choice would use the SMS from their work place. Such use would be a blatant violation of workplace ethics; not only that, individuals would more than likely be disciplined for using such services during office hours. This however, is not the case in India. Correct me, if I am wrong – in India every single individual who has access to the Internet at their respective workplaces would more than likely use it to vote for their chosen candidate/s numerous times. It is a matter of some concern; if one set of people who have access to SMS at their workplace, use the system to record their proffered candidate, while most of the regular people would have to pay for voting for a candidate of their choice. However, the problem assumes massive dimensions when institutional groups like the military or the police force, etc. use the machinery to completely overwhelm and skew the peoples’ verdict in favor of a single candidate, such as Prashant Tamang! This is where SONY TV failed, especially in allowing such perverted practices to prevail in the selection of the Indian Idol.

I have seen no breakdown of the votes cast by SMS, direct calls or any other acceptable means. It is important that SONY TV publish all relevant information, especially millions of people has paid to cast their votes. I would also like to see the breakdown of the so-called “seven crore” votes that were cast for this nomination. I am interested to know how many of those seven crore votes actually originated from the sepoys of the police forces and the jawans of the armed forces, who used their free Internet services to create this horrendous outcome. Why would they be allowed to force their ill-advised choice upon the “aam janta”?

Now, apart from this issue, the other aspect that is worth pondering is the very fact that the judges appeared to be a rag-tag bunch of celebrities from the music world, but sadly, none really were objective in rising above their narrow agendas, which was evident from the numerous episodes and voluminous comments they made during their judgments. Javed Akhtar was the worst offender of them all!

This individual has left a lasting spectacle of the worst temper tantrum a so-called “judge” which we all were privileged to view on live TV. This crude and boisterous individual with a king-size ego first pushed this nautanki performer Ankita (better known as “Anki Baby”) who was barely competent to be in the piano round. She was neither a singer, nor a performer, and yet Mr. Akhtar thrust his choice upon the viewing public, not for once feeling remorseful that his crude nepotism was hurting far more deserving candidates such as Charu Semwal, Dipali, and Pooja! All three of the named girls were far more talented in Indian musical compositions and also were far better singers than Ankita ever was.

When his misadventure with Ankita failed (which Javed Saheb wanted us to believe as his effort to promote “Nari Pragati”), he took off in a tangent and became a soothsayer! He ventured into predicting people’s future as to who will or will not be a successful playback singer in Bollywood. No objective judge will ever utter such harsh comments on the performance of an eighteen year old teenager, and then proceed to analyze further that since Emon’s voice sounds like Sonu Nigam, no one would like to listen to Sonu “lite”. I saw all episodes of Indian Idol 3 and now I wonder what Zaved Akhtar was seeing and listening through the last 8 months of his judgeship? During that period I have heard Amit sing songs of Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Kailash Kher, Zubin, and many others! Why did Zaved repeatedly try to stereotype Emon as Sonu’s clone? What was his agenda, who whom did he try to protect by such mean spirited and motivated diatribe? Poor Emon was no match to this behemoth, who had the power of his legacy to wrongly influence the voting public and indeed he achieved his goal! Emon became history! Now I am also curious to know what caused Zaved Akhtar to become so hateful of this young Kolkata lad? I followed the shows regularly I did not see any major clash from either side. Emon was a free soul and at no point he showed any disrespect to Javed Akhtar or any of the other “esteemed” judges… or is it?? Well, I do recall one episode not too long ago (in the past two months) when Emon appeared on stage with a “sindoor tilak” on his forehead. I am now wondering, if that ticked of the secular instincts of Javed Akhtar, and triggered this very un-judgelike behavior!

This of-course would be irrelevant if the man (Zaved) behaved with some more dignity in announcing the banishment of Emon from II 3! This “buzroog” displayed a behavior that is so unbecoming of a celebrity of any status. Emon bowed to touch Zaved’s feet (sic!) seeking his blessing, and this highty-mighty guy walks right past him to embrace Prashant!!! Never seen a rude act of this dimension, leave aside on national TV! When will take notice of such acts which has a net demoralizing effect upon the youth of the country!

SONY-TV today must be reflecting on what the grand finale would have been if Amit and Emon were the finalists! It is my belief that the show would have been far more electrifying and would have drawn many more viewers. The worst nightmare for SONY has become a reality! They will never be able to create an “Idol” out of Prashant, and Bollywood would be crazy to push this amateur singer in their ever so competitive arena! Bollywood is thriving today because of the influx of extremely talented kids and frankly, I do not see a situation where the industry will have to glorify a so called SONY doctored “Idol” who was nominated not on the basis of musical talent, but through the support of a small segment of our population who are in the law enforcement and defense services, and or the Gurkhas/Nepalis.

Prashant Tamang is the new indian Idol

NEW DELHI: Prashant Tamang, a constable in the West Bengal Police, was on Sunday crowned Indian Idol after vanquishing his rival Amit Paul in a grand finale of the over-two month long talent hunt.

Tamang, 24, who hails from Darjeeling, has undergone a journey from being a member in the police band in Kolkata to becoming the heart throb of millions of TV viewers all over the country.

The grand finale was an all North-East affair as Tamang took on 24-year-old Paul, who hails from Shillong.

The results of the talent hunt were announced at a gala in New Delhi with the final witnessing a whopping seven crore people sending in their votes.

Tamang stole the centrestage with his rendition of the song Yeh Kali Kali Ankhen from the Hindi film Baazigar .

As Bollywood actor John Abraham announced Tamang the winner, the constable thanked his mother in a voice choked with emotion.

"I thank my mother, public and Bengal police for granting me the permission for participating in the show," he said.

People have been saying that amit paul, did two music albums and tried in bollywood.. but he nevr said he had any training.. and as a proof that he never had any training as a classical singer please listen to first few seconds of this video carefully

So both of the contestants are untrained singers and can be groomed into fabolous singer.. i am not posting this for any sympathy for Amit Paul, but just to let everyone know that both are equally untrained..

Tks for bringing to folks like me the Indian idol clips.I may or maynotagree with your opinions but have no issues with your right to holdthem. Many here like me, don't care about your opinions either, I wouldventure to guess.The real winner of this show is India (and Sony, ofcourse). The smaller states at the periphery of India's consciousnesshave been brought into the limelight and that is an awesomeachievement. Thei feelings of belonging, of participating in anall-India crown , of belonging and connecting to the Indian heartlandis the single biggest achievement of this show. For that I am glad.I'mok with either Amit or Prashant winning the crown. Slightly biasedtowards Prashant though, the guy has shown heart, courage in the faceof great efforts by many opponents to belittle, under0rate anddemoralize him. A true sepoy, I hope he wins the crown.Also, to answersmart-alecs here who claim Prashant won't be heard from again after theshow, he'll make a living singing and entertaining in Nepali, IMO. I would like to add that i completely agree with your points, indian idol 3 has been much bigger then last two indian idols because the last two finalists are from two small states from india.. i have hardly seen any contestants from small states to go this far in any competition...

he has rightly said that its a win for india overall... Where people from small states like meghalaya and sikkim.. are havinga feeling of belonging .....

another point he has made about Sepot prashant is that he has been fighting since start against judges, and has shown the courage to actually come back with good performances again and again.. and thats an achievement in itself...

Well i am sorry, i missed something in my last post...

some readers have rightly pointed out that Amit Paul is also getting a huge support from his state meghalaya....

I completely forgot to mention this in my last post.. and i am really sorry for that....

Anyways still the fact is People are voting based on their states and not based on voice ( well those who dont have any contestant left from their state ) might be voting for their favorite... but to me it looks to me more of a battle between two states rather then a singing competition....

also i never mentioned in my last post that prashant sings bad, everybody have their opinion and in my opinion amit paul is little better the prashant... 100's of people have commented the same thing about prashant on this blog and i have never objected to that.. so why people are objecting when i am giving my own opinion... i am not a judge. so i have every right to be biased towards singer i think is best :) ...

So please don't think i am mis guiding people.. i am just posting my own views and thats what a blog is all about.. i am not speaking for others i am speaking for myself.. and if you dont agree with me.. its fine at the end of day one of these two has to win and my post wont make any difference..

i have never voted for any of the contestant ... nor will i.. :)

Just To Clear some Misunderstandings about Prashant and amit

Let me make this clear at the beginning that this post is not any hatred post or something i am just analyzing what i have seen in last few months on this blog... and this post only refer to majority of users who have been visiting this blog in last few months....

Also please note that when i write nepali in the post it refers to people with nepali ethinicty from Darjeeling or any other places in India.. i am not refering to citizens of Nepal...

You can either agree or disagree with my opinion... and leave a comment if you would like too

1). the last song in gala 12 was meant to be sung by both the singers half by amit and half by prashant, so the people who have been saying prashant helped amit are just assuming things.. it was prashant turn to sing.. though his gesture was good.

2). There is no proof of Amit paul having any formal training, as i have been hearing that prashant never had any training etc... but prashant have been singing for a band regularly so he has more experience of performing on stage then amit paull... but none of amit pauls fan brag about it..

3). Third point might disappoint lot of prashant fans, but it seems to me that his fans are the ones who are bringing ethinicity into all this... if you read all the comments of this blog .. each and every prashant fan has written that we nepalis are with you ... none of them have said we indians are with you .. if somebody has please show me that comment...

4) Finally... Prashant should have never been in finals if it would have been judges choice based on singing.. it would have been emon and amit Paul... I agree that indian idol is all about who has more support and in this case prashant has more then anyone else had before in all indian idols...

None of the user on this blog has ever said that prashant ethinicty is Nepali so he should not be given votes... his ethinicty is Nepali but he is indian...

About the judges, Prashant may have good voice.. but it is not better then amit Paul ( that's my opinion) .. and they have been given impression that prashant is there because only of his fanbase in darjeeling.. which might be true and might not be true.. but i think since amit Paul have been so good in last gala's that everyone want him to be indian idol .... i don't understand where does the ethinicty comes here ... its not about how someone looks .. its all about how someone sings....

Fact is no one from darjeeling is voting for prashant for his voice.. they are voting for him because he is from darjeeling... So who is being racist here .. I think its high time we should realize that its all in the mind of people that every other indian is being racist ... when i can hardly see any...

Judge's were wrong in final gala, but it was not because of prashant being a nepali.. it was because they want amit paul to win as he is better then prashant ....

Read this post twice before you post any hatred messages... i know there will be lot...

But i am just saying a reality.. its all in your mind and no one is being against you...

Take it easy guys.. its just a stupid game show.. where sony is making a lot of money as am i.... its not a war between people...

I am not saying prashant is a bad singer, he is much better then chang etc but not better then Amit paul and Emon .. and i am speaking for myself here... He might become a great singer if he gets proper training , so can Amit Paul and emon be...

Countdown begins for Indian Idol

Tamang, declared a brand ambassador by the Sikkim goverment, has received
support from several associations of journalists, taxi drivers, tribal youths
and businessmen as well as ministers and MLAs. Huge banners and hoardings have
been put up across Sikkim that hail the young singer as the "glory of the
hills".

His mother has toured different parts of the state to make emotional appeals
to people to vote for him on the reality show. GNLF chief Subash Ghising, AIGL
Chairman Madan Tamang and CPI-M MP Suraj Pathak have also campaigned for Tamang
in the Darjeeling Hills.

In Meghalaya, the telecom department has assured people that they will not
face any line congestion during the show featuring local lad Paul.

A car rally was organised in Guwahati today to mobilise support for him.
Several other functions were also organised in the past few days to garner
support for Paul, who hails from Meghalaya's capital Shillong.

Emon and Deepali to sing their first song for anu Malik

To all who thought contestants who are voted out, will never be able to reach the heights in music industry.. here is an answer..

It is none other than Anu Mallek, the judge who had always been at his
aggressive best during all the three Indian Idols .

is all set to make true the promises he made to young Deepali from Patna, the
day she was voted out. “I am a man who has the power to stick to my commitments.

their first song, which will happen on the 19th of this month. It is going to be

Why i felt So bad for prashant and amit last night ....

First of all this is final gala round, So none of the judges should actulally declare who is best of two and will win indian idol, as judges comment makes a lot of impact on voters. If you see saregamapa you will see none of the judges will ever say that "you will win this contestant" .. praising someone is another thing but to actually declare someone best out of rest is not judges's right.

amit sang the first song.. and he was no doubt brilliant once again as he has been in last 11 gala rounds, All the judges gave good comments ...

BUt anu malik said "" dhan dhana dhan dhan dhan , dhol bajao.. indian idol tu hi bangega baaki sab hat jao "" how lame is that...... it might not be intentional but still that may have made prashant's confidence down...

then these two stupid winners from some competition said amit paul will win... some more damagae to prashant confidence after that..

Low in confidence he started the second song badly... it was all over his face when he walked to sing the song that he is sad :( ...

anyways people on this blog are saying that judges were not sad for prashant.. well they never showed faces of judges when he missed the lines so we cant really say that didn't feel bad for him....

When we come to judge's comments.... nobody made a harsh remark and they all did try to bring his confidence back.. Javed ji was right to say that first round went to amit paul.. which was in a way true.....

If you see alisha and anu also tried to buck him up.. and said his antra was great...

Second Round

Well Prashant sand "badi mushkil hai" flawlessly and as judges mentioned squared up with amit paul ... only thing to see here is that whenever judges say prashant is good they say it in 2-3 lins but for amit its always like 10-12 lines..

what's the reason for that.. Well as far as i am concerned judges think prashant is not better then amit Paul and is in finals because of his fan support ..
Well thats what indian idol is all about , whoever has maximum number of fans wins this thing.. fanbase is above the voice quality.. anyways we will discuss this laters..

amit paul can sing in so many languages which is quite an advantage for him, i am a punjabi and the song he sang is one of my favorite song , i have even posted a video of this on youtube http://youtube.com/watch?v=LWgl3AyJII0 with some of my pics collection... Amit's pronouncation of punjabi was perfect and it was a ditto copy of original.. for me that was brilliant.. to see someone from north east part of india sing a punjabi song without any flaw is just unbelievable....

for me second round should have gone amit paul as he sang a punjabi song witch was difficult to sing, and prashant's song was in hindi and little easier then amit's...

I would like to add here that i am still not convinced about Prashant's accent, as he still needs to work on his hindi , the words are not clear enough... though his voice has a magical touch...

Third round :

here comes the controversial round, to start with amit sand the first two lines flawlessly... but the beat of song was flat so he got messed up and forgot whole para .. which was quite bad and made everyone sad ... If you not that when prashant forgot his lyrics he missed only few lines so camera was not focussed on judges or mini etc ... but amit forgot whole para so they had ample of time to show what judges and other guys are reacting to it... ( So dont think they dont think for Prashant well bieng).... amit tried to gather his rthym which he did eventually but i guess it was too late as he only had to sing half of the song...

Prashant gave amit a Hug and that was soo sweet of him and then he continued the song,
and i listened the song withouth watching the video and there was hardly any different between both voices when prashant took over.. So we can say he was equally better to Amit Paul...

Judges comments :

first of all mini looked so sad, well amit didn't sing well.. so what she should have cheered up with prashant he sang brilliantly but she took away that from prashant ( Toooo Lame ) ... it looked like this song was only for amit and not for prashant ... well this is where indian idol has gone wrong you can't actually focus on a single contestant .. you have to be neutral especially when its final round.. prashant was completely left out...

Javed akhtar said second round goes to Prashant as amit paul made the same mistake...
Which actually shows he is not biased and all prashant fans who have been saying bad things about him should have got their answer...

Now i should not say that, but she acted like a proper bitch when she said Amit you are no 1 and aapke sab gunaah maaf and you are bharat ki shaan... "Hello Miss 40 what happened to Mr Prashant tamang??.. he is bharat ki shaan too"

This is where idian idol is going bad .. amit paul may be a better singer but its all about being fair with singers .. so when someone makes a mistake you have to treat him equally .. which anu malik being a professioanl made .. alisha is just a lady with no brains who goes with looks and nothing else...

anu malik and javed akhtar are senior and old enough to take care of this..

Bipasha then made it worse by saying vote only for the best and she will be voting only for amit paul.. john was mature enough to praise both the singers...

at the end all i can say they have messed up the whole indian idol in this final round where it was clearly seen that amit paul was given more attention then Prashant tamang.... I feel for prashant for all this...

why i feel bad for amit Paul

he has been singing so weel in last 11 gala rounds and gave mind blowing performances and Should win this indian idol.. but i guess his last performance may have taken that edge over prashant away from him and the kind of support prashant has from nepalese community .. ( some 3 guys voted 75K votes for him in last gala )..
I guess we will again miss on a great singer in amit Paul, but Prashant is great singer too and can make big in this industry.. as Udit narayan has...

Amit Paul does not have the same fan base as prashant has... so i predict Prashant tamang to be Next Indian Idol ...

Guwahati raises campaign pitch for Amit

With barely a day left for the countdown to voting for the new Indian Idol
3, legions of Amit Paul’s fans today trooped onto the streets in Guwahati
from Shillong to garner votes for the new singing sensation of the Northeast.

Amit has crossed the penultimate hurdle in one of
India’s most popular music talent shows on Sony TV.

Leaving no stone unturned, Shillong Art and Music
Lovers Forum, the main force backing the singer with the “sensuous voice,” even
roped in popular Assamese filmstars Zerifa Wahid and Kapil Bora to campaign for
Amit in the city today.

Amit has sung many a song for Kapil in several of his
VCD albums and the two are very good friends.

As the caravan of vehicles with Zerifa and Kapil
threaded its way through the bustling Guwahati streets, the number of diehard
Amit fans started swelling.

“Amit is a dear friend of ours and a great singer. We
want him to win the contest and make us all proud. We want all to generously
vote for the talented singer,” Kapil said as the caravan reached the last leg of
the daylong campaign in Maligaon.

Echoing him, Zerifa said: “We want Amit to win the
show as he is a great talent and deserves nothing less than the winner’s crown.
We want all to vote for Amit to help him come up trumps.”

With folded hands and thousand-watt smiles, Zerifa and

With the exit of talented Emon, Sony TV is denying rumours that there is
no rigging in Indian Idol Voting process.

Sony Entertainment Television is strongly denying the rumours going
around that there is some rigging going in Indian Idol voting process. An
offical source said, "We have a reputed third
party organization which audits the voting process, which is very fair. People
are wrongly blaming us for Emon's and Chang's Ouster, You don't vote for the
right singer, and then cry about a lesser person coming ahead. Prashant has a
sizable number of people in his home area and the police force who are voting en
block , so he is winning."

The source went on, "Don't the judges (Alisha wanted to walk out ) also
complain about audiences voting pattern? Although Emon was a good singer, we
alway knew that he will be out, because he did not have required public
support."

On the question of making the vote figures public, our
source said, "The format( Indian idol is
international format) does not allow for the same . And secondly, if we do give
the voting figures, will it not affect the next rounds result?". Taking a
dig at the opposition, the source further went on to say that both those
shows(Sa Re Gama SVOI) are homegrown and could have had the judges saving the
contestants( which we cannot do, due to above format restriction) , but even
then they prefer to ape us.

When reminded that something similar had
happened during Qazi victory in Fame Gurukul2, the source empathetically denied
any wrong doing even then too. "We Indian's
like the underdog and support him, hence Qazi came ahead.. So please vote for
your favorite contestant rather then just crib."

Its rocking, Yah you wont believe but Indian idol finalists
Amit paul and prashant tamang rock the venue.
Nirmal lifestyle mulund on tuesday 11th september was fully
crowded to see and hear there Favourite indian idol finalists. To see just
glimpse of their hero girls were going mad. And what a life time performance
these two brilliant singer delivered. They made actor “Sunjay
dutt” and “Ritesh deshmukh” to rock on there tunes.
They were so thrilled to see them performing that they were not able to stop
themselves. They rocked on tuned of Indian idol finalists.

To back up these quality singers from indian idol finalists there were two
key players from “Chak de india” playing character of
“Preeti Shabarwal” and “Vidya Sharma” in the
movie. They were very much impressed from Amit paul and prashant tamang style of
singing. They also was unable to stop themselves from hip hop on there singing
and rocking style. These indian idol finalists are really going to rock on the
final finale of indian idol 3 which will be going to take place on soon on sony
T.V.

Rocking the environment of mumbai, crowd was getting crazy. Singing the
lastes songs and some classics, these india idol finalists make the atmosphere
electric. No one was able to control themselves from rocking on. What a
wonderful performance by Amit paul and prashant tamang. Who ever may be the
indian idol, the craziness of people toward them seems to be
electrifying.
